After Hacettepe University was founded in 1967, Virology Research Laboratory established by Prof. Dr. Şemsettin Ustaçelebi. Between 2008-2018 the director of the Virology Laboratory was Prof. Dr. Dürdal Us. Since 2018 the laboratory is conducted by Prof. Dr. Ahmet Pınar. Our laboratory, which also provides Medical Virology subspecialty training, conducts scientific research on vector-borne viruses, rodent-borne viruses, viruses that cause neurological diseases and respiratory tract viruses. Studies focus on molecular and serological diagnosis, vector/reservoir-host interaction, epidemiology and ecology of pathogens, identification of new viruses and molecular evolution. The Virology part of the Medical Microbiology Specialization Training is also provided in our laboratory.
