Nuclear Medicine Hot Lab is placed within authorized-controlled radiation field and serves routine production/preparation of both diagnostic and therapeutic radiopharmaceuticals along with their quality control procedures and waste management. Tc99m-labeled radiopharmaceuticals are the most commonly used gama emiting radiopharmaceuticals in nuclear medicine. Tc99m isotope is produced from Mo-99/Tc99m generator system within the hot lab. Tc99m can be labeled with various commercial kit formulations according to the routine work-flow such as Tc99m-DTPA, Tc99m-MAG3, Tc99m-MAA , Tc99m-nanocolloid etc. Quality control is another important service of hot lab, that has to be completed before administration to patients. After proper quality control assessment, radiopharmaceuticals are drawn into syringes in suitable doses for that particular procedure and patient. Dosing is performed with the use of well-type dose calibrators in the hot lab. Following the administration the dose activity of he empty syringe is also assessed with dose calibrator and recorded accordingly. All used syringes and vials are kept within specifically-shielded containers in the hot lab and transferred to Hot storage therafter. All of the staff working in hot lab should wear dosimeters to monitor their radiation exposure periodically, since all staff in charge are accepted as radiation workers by law.
