X-Ray Laboratory

About

It is aimed to understand the relationship between structure and feature in crystallographic studies which are examining the atomic/molecular structure and order within the material.

Studies on crystallography was satrted with W.C. Röntgen's discovery of X-rays (1895). These studies carried out in the world since 1901 have brought 26 Nobel Prizes in physics, chemistry and medicine.

From the elucidation of the DNA structure, today's modern researches are realized with crystallographic researches by using large accelerators and synchrotron beam centers as well as labortaory type X-ray systems. So, a lot of scientific, technological and industrial development which are important for human have taken their place in daily life.

Beside of basic sciences, medicine, pharmacy, food, agriculture etc. interdisciplines related to many branches of science are also related with crystallographic analyzes.

The most of the indusrial and technological achievements depend on the creation of original materials, the control of their construction and the acquisition and development of these materials.

Today, beside of single and powder crystall analyses,  with the development of X-ray sources and detectors, the structural analyzes of materials in gel, liquid and dense gas form can be also made by X-Ray scattering methods.

The National Society for Crystallography, founded in 2001, under the leadership of faculty members of our X-ray Crystallography Laboratory (http://www.ukd.org.tr). With nearly 100 members, our country's crystallographers continue their scientific research activities and training new crystallographers under the umbrella of this national association.

Hacettepe University, Department of Physics Engineering, X-rays Laboratory is pioneer in our country on crystalography with the modern experimental equipments.

The analysis of nano structured materials and macromolecular structures in Turkey have been also started in this laboratory.

Advanced researches can be also carried out by our laboratory members at Synchrotron beam centers with our international and interdisciplinary cooperations are maintained.
